The Patient Care Assistant works alongside physicians and nursing staff to support the delivery of high-quality patient care and ensure a positive patient and family experience. This role provides direct support with daily living activities, basic patient care, and unit operations while maintaining a safe, compassionate, and collaborative care environment. The Patient Care Assistant plays a vital role in patient comfort, safety, and overall care delivery.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Support nursing personnel in providing direct patient care and assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, positioning, and mobility.
- Serve and collect meal trays and provide between-meal nourishment as appropriate.
- Change bed linens, run errands, and prepare, clean, and sterilize treatment trays and supplies.
- Transport patients safely within the facility for consultations, treatments, tests, and examinations.
- Measure, observe, and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and report changes to nursing staff.
- Assist with basic patient treatments and comfort measures under the direction of licensed staff.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized care environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Perform continuous rounding and check-ins throughout the shift to ensure patient and family needs are met.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, alertness, and a positive attitude at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, or similar healthcare training program preferred.
Certification
- Current Nursing Assistant certification (CNA) or equivalent preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience
- Previous experience in a hospital, long-term care, or healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience providing direct patient care and working as part of an interdisciplinary team strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow directions, policies, and procedures accurately.
- Strong attention to safety, infection prevention, and patient confidentiality.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, standing, walking, and transporting patients.
- Demonstrated teamwork, reliability, and professionalism.
