Job Description:
Adheres to approved standards of aseptic technique during Diagnostic Lab procedures, utilizing equipment and supplies safely and prudently. Facilitates implementation of physician’s orders accurately, promptly, and courteously. Demonstrates competence and knowledge in efficiently preparing a patient for Diagnostic Lab procedures using established aseptic techniques. Assists the physician and anticipates equipment needs, recognizing potential emergency situations and implementing preventative measures as directed. Demonstrates technical and manual dexterity during procedures while prioritizing tasks under the physician’s direction. Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner and communicates electrocardiographic/hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure. Files all patient data and films daily in accordance with established department systems and documents accurate and pertinent data concerning the patient’s condition during procedures. Prepares patients in a timely fashion, moves and assists patients appropriately to the procedure table, and provides maximum privacy during procedures. Demonstrates the ability to operate, problem-solve, and improvise common equipment malfunctions, and learns and practices new techniques and equipment utilization by attending training sessions. Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to ensure radiation safety for self, fellow employees, visitors, and physicians. Communicates effectively and frequently with team members to share information and solve problems positively, and accompanies patients to their rooms or discharge, giving reports to the unit nurse. Performs filming and printing of hard copies for angiography, regulates KVP and MA for special procedures, and participates in mandatory in-services and continuing education as mandated by policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Able to operate Interventional and Cardiac x-ray units in the various lab areas. [Required]
• Able to operate EXPER (Phillips) lab and similar procedural documentation systems. [Required]
• Able to operate in EPIC and other department IT software documentation for department functionality. [Required]
• Able to operate balloon pumps, operate code cart, IV contrast injectors, and inventory systems as needed. [Required]
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with hospital personnel, patients, and the public. [Required]
• Ability to supervise, delegate, and evaluate. [Required]
• Ability to follow through and to perform numerous tasks at once and work with minimal supervision. [Required]
• Knowledge of the use of computerized and radiographic equipment to perform diagnostic procedures in a manner consistent with minimal radiation exposure and maximum image quality. [Required]
• The ability to communicate and receive instructions, verbally and written, and carry them out as directed. [Required]
