The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing and maintaining quality nursing care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in the Infusion Therapy area. The Infusion Therapy nurse works collaboratively with Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, physicians, staff and other Hospital disciplines to develop, implement and coordinate the care of the outpatient infusion therapy patients.
Responsibilities:
· Completes a nursing assessment on each patient, monitors and reassesses interventions and documents response.
· Makes decisions that reflect both knowledge of facts and sound judgment by utilizing age-appropriate standards of care/practice, policies & procedures.
· Develops a plan of care and measurable goals that are mutually set with patient/family.
· Implements appropriate nursing care as directed by assessment and planning and demonstrates sound nursing judgment appropriate resource utilization and compassionate, empathetic support for both patient and family.
· Records and reports observed physical and emotional reactions to illness, treatment and medications.
· Anticipates potential patient problems and performs nursing actions to minimize those problems in a timely manner.
· Manages time effectively for proper balance between professional conferences.
· Articulates and demonstrates professional image of ambulatory nursing daily to patients, other professionals and the public as evidenced by level of practice.
· Participates in continuing education programs and in-service education to provide the most appropriate nursing care and completes continuing education programs on time.
· Skilled in IV insertion and accessing and deaccessing Mediports.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: 1 year of oncology/chemotherapy experience required.
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor?s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licenses / Certifications: Current Registered Nurse license and registration in New York State required. BLS required. ONS Chemotherapy/ Immunotherapy certification required within 6 months of employment. OCN preferred.
